They witnessed a man running from something

Alive and Killing David Wolf Book 3 edition by Jeff Carson Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks

What a pleasure to read a good story, well written, well edited except for a few small mistakes, which is sometimes the fault of auto spell check. Anyway, it held my interest all the way through. The characters are believable, well developed, and the action is exciting. Carson has that writer's gift that makes you feel like you are there so it plays in your mind like a well done film. And he does it without being ridiculously flowery or verbose. He just seems to have a knack for painting scenes with words. Thanks for the literary romp, Jeff. Ok, I just bought the next 2 in the David Wolf series, and can't wait!

Alive and Killing David Wolf Book 3 edition by Jeff Carson Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

This was the second David Wolf book I've read. The characters are very good, and Mr. Carson develops them nicely. The story line is action-packed, exciting and credible. Overall, I do like Mr. Carson's writing and story-telling. However, one thing drives me absolutely nuts, and that is his improper use of pronouns! He writes things such as " . . . an argument between she and . . ." He seems to forget the words "her" and "him." This misuse happens frequently enough to seriously detract from a reader's enjoyment of the story (at least for me, because I am somewhat of a grammar freak; it might not bother others at all).

That's my 2 cents worth, and I will read more stories by Jeff Carson, given the opportunity!
This is the third David Wolf mystery I've read. (Yes, I like to read series books in order.) I'd give the other two books four stars. They were exciting to read and fast-paced. However, I think Jeff Carson has really come into his own with "Alive and Killing." If you like a traditional-style mystery with a few modern twists (and set in the U.S. mountain states), I highly recommend the Wolf mysteries. I noticed just now that he is selling the first four mysteries for $8 total, which I think is a good buy.
Alive and Killing by Jeff Carson is about a Colorado Sheriff and his 12-yr.-old son, Jack, who happened to be in the right place at the wrong time. While going on a camping trip in the mountains, they have a run in with some armed men who are set on killing them! Four men who fought in Afghanistan were assumed dead, but turns out they are alive and killing!

I liked this book because it was full of adventure and suspense with mystery and interest characters. The love interest I thought would develop for the Sheriff did not. I was always eager to come back and read more of this one. It just seemed a bit odd how the Sheriff was so adept at avoiding fire from military personnel.
This book had everything that I like in a mystery ... interesting, believable plot ... well developed and likable (or hate worthy) characters ... and (although originally, I gather that it badly needed editing) ... no jarring errors in spelling, grammar, etc. Apparently, it was in need of editing a few years ago, but I assure you that those errors have been corrected. I will be looking both for more books by David Wolf, and for more of this specific series. I also liked that I didn't feel I'd missed something by reading this (book 3) before reading books 1 and 2. I do hope to find and read both of those, too ... but this book also stood nicely on its own.
I got the version of this book free from , and I enjoyed it so much I am buying the rest of the titles in the series. So many books in this genre are written by lazy authors who have a plot idea that is maybe worth 10 pages, so they pad it out to book-length with oceans of irrelevant and annoying detail that contributes nothing to character or plot development.

Mr Carson is different his characters are vivid and realistic, and nearly all of the words and sentences move the plot forward (only the very best authors achieve that for ALL of their words and sentences).

This book starts with a bang, and the pace is relentless all the way through. I really enjoyed it.
Wolf Takes his son on a camping trip to a particular spot that Wolf loves. It can only be reached by hiking many miles in the rough. On the way they encounter a strange man who seems to be running from some one or something. They are curious about the man but proceed hiking. when they finally reach the fishing spot and begin to set up camp, they are fired on from afar. Then the mystery begins. Who and what have they stumbled upon. Then the race is on. The plot thickens beyond belief and then it can become confusing. I enjoyed the story line but I did find some of the timeliness rather impossible. Places far away for some characters to get to, seem to be a lot closer for others. But it is a novel so sometimes anything goes.
The third book in this series focused on Wolf and his son, Jack. It is an extraordinary story about the lengths this father will go to in order to protect his child.

This fast-paced suspense story captures you from the beginning and holds you hostage until the last page is read. The descriptions of Rocky Point, Colorado and the surrounding area are so well-written that I can visualise the forests, mountains and locations where the action all takes place. The characters are well-developed, likeable and I am getting to know them, pretty soon they will be like old friends. There are so many twists and turns that sometimes, you might not know which way is up. Just when you think you have the whole thing figured out, another clue was cleverly revealed. I am very much enjoying Mr. Carson's writing style — it is unlike any author I have read in this genre in a l-o-n-g time!
